Brian Callan
Board Member
Brian Callan recently retired after a forty-year career spanning government, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. He has long supported Open Schools Worldwide and brings many years of Christian service to his role. Brian has been a local preacher with the Methodist Church in Ireland since 1988, served as a Sunday school teacher for twenty years, and previously spent two decades on the Irish Board of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. His experience reflects a deep commitment to faith, service, and education.

Dr. Alan McIlhenny

Dr. Alan McIlhenny has served in Christian education and international development across a wide range of contexts. His experience includes teaching mathematics in a grammar school, lecturing in mathematics and education at university level in a developing country, and serving as founding principal of an international Christian high school. He also worked with Tearfund, supporting vulnerable children in several countries. This combination of experience helped prepare him to co-found Open Schools Worldwide, now a ministry of TeachBeyond, where he continues to serve with a special concern for marginalized children to find hope in Christ through transformational education.

Dr. Coleen R. Jackson has served in education at school, university, and local authority levels, and has also worked with the National College of School Leadership and the Department for Education. More recently, she has consulted with governments and ministries of education around the world. Her professional experience, together with short-term mission service in several countries, equips her well to support TeachBeyond’s work in the UK. Coleen also serves on the Global Board as Deputy Chair and contributes to safeguarding for both the UK and Global Boards.

Florence Binions is a retired primary teacher with a continuing passion for education and Christian ministry. She studied for two years at the Irish Bible Institute in Dublin and has remained active in church life through Bible study leadership, music ministry, children’s work, and informal pastoral care. Florence is grateful for the opportunity to be involved with TeachBeyond and Open Schools Worldwide, and values the way education can bring hope and lasting transformation.

Mark Thomas studied biblical education in the United States before serving in church-based youth ministry and later joining Torchbearers International. He went on to direct Torchbearers centres in Colorado and Texas before returning to the UK to lead Capernwray Hall, the founding centre of Torchbearers International. Mark was introduced to TeachBeyond several years ago and is thankful to support a ministry that shares Christ through education around the world. He and his wife, Linda, live near Capernwray Hall, where he served until retirement.
