Welcome!
Now that you are officially a TeachBeyond candidate, these are the final steps to becoming a member and beginning service with TeachBeyond.
Use this page as a checklist! Since tasks don't necessarily need to be completed in a certain order, they are arranged by department. You can direct questions to the relevant department using the contact information on the right (or to your Mobilisation Coach if you’re not sure).
Once you have been assigned a TeachBeyond email address, it is expected that as a TeachBeyond member you will only use this secure account to communicate within the organisation. We encourage you to get into that habit now and begin checking your email at least weekly for important updates and key communications!
Please be aware that these steps will take some time to complete. We want to be sure that you have everything you need to be set up well for success in serving with TeachBeyond, and while there are a number of items here, these are the tasks deemed most necessary for completion prior to beginning with TeachBeyond. Thank you for prioritising these items!
If you will be serving in a Creative Access location (as noted in your Welcome Letter), please note that it is imperative that you address security concerns as you share about your ministry with friends, family members, and potential supporters. If you have any questions about that, contact your regional team or mobilisation coach.
We're here to help! Please don't hesitate to reach out to the departments (at right) with any questions.

Benefits
You will receive your support schedule via email and will meet with one of the UK&IRL team to discuss and agree it. This will be used to inform your financial support raising or self-donating target and must be finalised prior to receiving final approval with TeachBeyond.
Your support schedule will include 'start-up costs'. These will include the Background check, health screen & any vaccinations, MPD resources & travel, insurance costs (medical & travel), orientation costs, a Will (if you don't have one already), flight costs, and household set-up costs. It may include a VISA. Household set-up costs can be sent to you as pay in the month preceding your departure, please discuss this with finance.
All expatriate members are required to have medical insurance (which MUST include medical evacuation cover) and travel insurance as needed. We have arrangements with insurance companies, and you should discuss this at your support schedule call or ask Finance UK&IRL at finance.uk@teachbeyond.org for details. If you already have insurance, you will need to provide us with evidence that the cover is equivalent to the policies we recommend. These documents must be uploaded onto Namely.
You will need to think about a pension scheme especially if you are overseas for 2 years or more. If you have a teachers pension in the UK or your own country you may be able to continue adding to it. TeachBeyond UK & Ireland have a pension scheme with NEST that you will need to opt out of (if your monthly support is above a certain amount). Discuss this at your support schedule call and contact Finance who will inform you of this and what you need to do.
Ministry Partner Development (MPD) - If Raising Support
MPD is about funding your part of God’s ministry and getting people involved too!
An important part of MPD is the partnership: find at least 20 people who will commit to praying regularly for you and specifically over your support raising journey. You may eventually be asking these same people to partner with you financially but start with prayer.
The support schedule you will get will give you a target to work towards for the financial part of MPD. This document can be revised later to incorporate your specific or growing needs.
If you haven’t already, finish reading The God Ask OR Personal Support Raising Matters book/s.
Once you receive your support schedule, you will be sent more information about training. Full-time candidates are strongly encouraged to complete some level of MPD training prior to departure.
To be approved to begin your assignment, you must have fully raised your start-up expenses and have at least 90% of your monthly support level committed, with the hope that you will be fully funded by the time of departure.
TeachBeyond requires that candidates raise all start-up costs and 90% of monthly support before booking airline tickets.
A ministry account will be set up in your name which will be used to process all donations and your financial transactions. New supporters should begin giving as soon as possible. Funds given before your departure (both one-time and monthly gifts) will be used for start-up costs and travel expenses. Monthly donations are recommended so that you can budget and are the most consistent method for maintaining support. You should keep a thorough record of all pledges along with the start dates for donations.
Supporters can:
- Set donations up through our online giving page (www.give.teachbeyond.org.uk). Make sure that your name is added so we know where the donations should go.
- Give one-time or recurring gifts online via credit card or PayPal. Due to the fees associated with giving via credit card, we recommend using the credit card option for one-time gifts only.
- Give through your personal giving page (see Communications section).
Please log onto the website and thoroughly familiarise yourself with our giving options so you can effectively educate your donors.
Communications
You will receive an email from Donate.US about setting up your giving page if you are raising financial support. It will be accessed through your dashboard.
On your dashboard, select Personal Give Page from the menu on the left (making sure to select UK if this is where your donors live). Add information about your role and upload a photo. You can share your unique giving page link with potential supporters to contribute directly to your TeachBeyond account. There are options for donors to give in the U.S/Canada and South Africa.
On your dashboard, select Communication Resources from the menu on the left. Under the headline "Prayer Cards" you will find a form to fill out and a Prayer Card Catalogue. You can take a look at the Prayer Card Catalogue to pick a design. After you fill out the form we can start working on your prayer card right away. The Communications Department will create it and send you a PDF for you to print locally. NB: when asked for your account number, type N/A. This will not show on the card.
IT Support
In order for us to serve effectively as TeachBeyond members, it is imperative that we have effectively functioning technology (computers, tablets, smart phones, etc.) to be used in local ministry contexts as well as to communicate with TeachBeyond colleagues and ministry partners. The TeachBeyond IT Services Department strives to help ensure new TeachBeyond candidates are adequately prepared with their devices prior to beginning service while also providing ongoing support for members on assignment.
In order to be approved to begin service with TeachBeyond, new candidates need to complete the IT Devices Review. This requirement can be met in one of two ways:
- Complete an online self-assessment (Click here)
- Schedule a personal Microsoft Teams call with Norman Siemens (Email nsiemens@teachbeyond.org)
Safeguarding
Help us to realise this important vision by working through a brief Safeguarding course. To access the course, click here and choose the option to enrol yourself in the course. If prompted to log in, click on the TeachBeyond Microsoft 365 button at the top.
You will need to read and sign the “Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct” at the end of the brief course to fulfil this requirement.
Risk and Crisis Management
TeachBeyond takes seriously the duty of care for its workers. Please complete the following training based on the region in which you will be serving. This training must be completed prior to Member Approval. If you are uncertain about your region, please contact your mobilisation coach. Anyone is welcome to complete additional training beyond the listed requirements.
OST = Online Security Training courses hosted in Moodle, click below to access.
Orientation
Finance Services
If you are a salaried* member sent from the UK & Ireland office, you will be paid once a month, on the 25th (if the 25th falls on a weekend, it will happen the business day before).
You may submit receipts for “work-related” expenses (e.g., printing and postage for prayer letters, support-raising related travel, prayer cards, passports, etc.). Please use a claim form (located in Namely under Resources > UK Finance).
finance.uk@teachbeyond.org
*salaried = receiving money from your support account monthly.
In your application process, you should have been informed of TeachBeyond’s policy to only allow certain types of debt prior to beginning service. We can account for a certain amount in student loan payments in your support schedule. Please check your support schedule to ensure that the correct amount is allotted for loans if this pertains to you.
If you currently have any debt besides student loans or a mortgage, it is our expectation that you will be paying this off prior to your start date with TeachBeyond. Please contact UK & Ireland Finance if you have any concerns regarding this.
All members – you may also need to pay tax in the country you are serving in and will need to find out about this as soon as you can.
Member Approval Tasks
Prior to requesting Member Approval, it is essential for you to have communication with your school/placement to receive permission to arrive/start.
In Namely, go to "My Profile." Click on the three dots in the upper right corner. Select "Request a Change" and then "Member Approval" for your country of citizenship. Follow the instructions to complete and submit when finished.
If you have any questions, please contact personnel.uk@teacbeyond.org.
If you are relocating for your assignment, you may purchase plane tickets once you have received clearance from People Services for departure. Airfare for your initial trip to your assignment is eligible for reimbursement as a service-related expense. Locate the claim form on Namely > UK Finance, complete and send to finance.uk@teachbeyond.org.
Optional: TeachBeyond UK has an agreement with Diversity Travel who may be able to provide you with a larger baggage allowance and cheaper flights.
Church Relations
We affirm that sending missionaries is a role entrusted to the Church in Scripture, and our desire in TeachBeyond is to work alongside local churches who are sending workers into the harvest. You are an extension of your church as you serve overseas with TeachBeyond. Invite your church to be invested in your ministry even from afar.
Here are a few ways you can engage with your church both before you depart and as you serve on the field:
· Prayer: We believe that prayer changes people and situations. Commit to praying for your church as they commit to praying for you. Discuss with your church how you can share prayer requests while you are on the field. Invite them to pray for your class, your school/project, and your teammates. Ask how you can be praying for them.
· Partnership: Take the time early on to sit down with your pastor or missions point person to discuss any spoken or unspoken expectations. It is important that your church (or churches) are part of your support and in agreement with your move.
· Commissioning: See if your church would be willing to have a commissioning service for you before you depart to pray over you as you partner together in the work of transformational education. Let us know if you plan on celebrating in this way – we would love to come, if possible!
We desire that you are connected well with a local church as you prepare to begin with TeachBeyond – and that you stay in close contact as you serve with TeachBeyond. Be sure to communicate gratitude to your church for the ways in which they are partnering with you.
